For what it’s worth, I feel like parents need to be encouraged today.
As parents, we wonder if we are making the right choices for our kids. We wonder if they will walk with Jesus when they are adults. We wonder if they will choose the right spouse to compliment his/her values. It seems we never stop wondering if our children will become the adults that God designed them to become.
This morning, I sat with a couple who didn’t seem to wonder about any of those things. They both seemed to believe that all of the dreams and aspiration they had for the children could go away if they knew their kids were grounded in the Scriptures. We spent talking about how to make the Scripture comes alive within individual families. It was such a refreshing conversation. For all the adults we want churches to keep their kids busy with various entertainment, this family was a conversation I needed.
I want to leave you some thoughts about what really matters in life. What our kids will fall back on when the journey of life isn’t going so well.
Deuteronomy 6:5-9 – “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I am giving you today are to be in your heart. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be a symbol on your forehead. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
Please be encouraged that pointing your kids to Jesus is the best decision that you will ever make on their behalf. Don’t give up, your kids need you to keep fighting for their souls. Some of them don’t realize they are engaged in a battle.
