1 O LORD, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; 2 many are saying of my soul, “There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah
3 But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. 4 I cried aloud to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah
5 I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me. 6 I will not be afraid of many thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.
7 Arise, O LORD! Save me, O my God! For you strike all my enemies on the cheek; you break the teeth of the wicked.
8 Salvation belongs to the LORD; your blessing be on your people! Selah
When the people who are closest to me do not cooperate with my plans, it seems that nobody else does either. Is it that way for you also?
David was in a conflict with his son, Absalom, and had to flee for fear he would be killed. David has been called “a man after God’s own heart”, but has fallen into the pit of emotions. One person came against him, so everybody is against him. He feels like his whole world is falling apart. It’s so bad that others said God cannot even save him.
Do you have those days? I know I do. In fact, I think all of us do. Relationships are very important and when they are going badly, we take it personally.
In the midst of bad days, the Lord remains good. The goodness of God comes alive in verses 3-7.
The Lord is our protector.
The Lord is our source.
The Lord is our encouragement.
The Lord answers when we cry out to Him.
The Lord upholds, supports and gives rest.
The Lord does battle on our behalf.
I am unaware of your personal circumstances or situations, but I know the goodness of God in my own life. I know the blessing of my salvation is upon me each day.
If you’re struggling with a relationship or conflict, I encourage you to lean into the goodness of God in your life. He is your protector. He is your source. He is your encouragement.
People might fail us, but the goodness of God never will fail us when we lean into the source that He is.
Today, cry out to God with your situation and he will answer your call.
