During July, our family spent 12 days camping in our “cabin on wheels”. We sat on the beach and enjoyed Lake Michigan as much as possible. Bridget and I watch our kids savor every moment in the sand and water. For us, it was a beautiful pause in the midst of a very busy season of life.
Even as I wrote the previous line, I thought, “Isn’t every season of life very busy?” It seems like the answer to that question is yes. As long as children are running through our home, life will be busy. The same is true for you.
The question becomes, “When do you pause and watch your kids savor moments of life?”
Not all of us can take off to the beach for a few weeks and I don’t believe we need to in order to pause.
Here are some ways you can pause during the normalcy of life.
1. Eat dinner outside on the patio or at the park.
2. Lounge on the couch with your kids and watch THEIR favorite show with them.
3. Go for a walk as a family. It doesn’t have to be long, but pauses never are long.
4. Get a hammock and relax.
5. Block off an afternoon that nothing regular can take place.
We only have our kids for a short time. They hopefully will not remember everything we do as parents, but it is our job to pause long enough to give them moments to savor.
I’m told the journey of parenting never ends, it simply changes with the seasons of life. Hopefully, these five ways to pause will help your journey today.
I would love to continue the conversation. What are some of your favorite ways to pause during life?
